People often ask me about backing up their computer. While I most definitely recommend backing up to a local hard drive, I always warn people that this is only as safe as your house. Hard drives are not safe from fire or flooding, well until now. The IOSafe seems to solve that problem. This is a great option, just keep in mind you still have to have it plugged into your computer so you can update nightly. Another option is using a third-party back up like Mozy.com.
